Andrew was involved in a number of occupations before discovering a passion for art in the mid 1990's. These included horticulture, construction, and house painting. During a course on specialised paint effects for in-door house painting which involved a number of artistic paint methods he discovered he possessed a natural talent for painting beyond flat walls and weatherboards. He has been continually making paintings since this time.

After a move from Auckland to Christchurch in 1999 he began painting full time, except for a brief period  after the Christchurch earthquakes where he was involved with the city's reconstruction. In 2018 Andrew went back to University to formalise his artistic knowledge, he began a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree which he achieved with 1st class honours. He followed this with a Masters of Fine Arts degree which he gained with distinction from Canterbury University. Since completing his MFA, Andrew has returned to full time art making. He is represented by the PGgallery192, and has regularly exhibited there since.

Andrew's paintings reflect an interest in the internal world of subjective thought. They are grounded in the philosophical ideas of the 20th century writer and thinker Albert Camus, and his philosophy of absurdism.
